      Tour profile:

The Danube cycle path is completely paved from one end to the other, flat and almost always directly along the riverbank.

      Day 1: Passau

Individual arrival. Use your remaining time in Passau for a city tour or go for a walk through the picturesque old part of the ‘City of Three Rivers’. Between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. bike hand over – for late arrivals on the next morning.

Day 2: Passau – Eferdinger Valley, approx. 70 km

Along the riverbank of the Danube you will cycle towards the Schlögener loop where the hard granite mountains of the Mühlviertel have created a 180-degree bend on the Danube. Upon arrival you will then take the ferry across the Danube to the southern bank (not included) where you will cycle through the scenic Danube market region of Aschach. Lastly, reaching today’s destination of rest in Brandstatt.

Day 3: Eferdinger Valley – Strudengau, approx. 86 km

Today’s stretch takes you through the state capital of Upper Austria, Linz, complete with its many and varied attractions and later Strudengau. In Grein you can visit an impressive castle and the oldest city theatre in Austria.

      Day 4: Strudengau – Krems/surroundings, approx. 90 km

Next, you leave the quaint baroque village of Strudengau and cycle through Nibelungengau to Pöchlarn where you will see the significant monument of Nibelungen and the birthplace of the renowned artist Oskar Kokoschka. After riding past the Benedictine Abbey of Melk, the rolling hills and vineyards of the Wachau take you through the romantic vineyards of Spitz and Weissenkirchen to ancient ruins in the gorgeous village of Dürnstein. In Dürnstein you can visit the jail where King Richard the Lionheart spent time. Moving on to yet another highlight of the day you cycle to the 1000-year-old wine city of Krems where you will enjoy a night of rest.

      Day 5: Krems/surroundings - Vienna, approx. 80 km

The last cycling day takes you through the vast and beautiful Tullner fields. As soon as you can see the edge of the Vienna Woods (Wiener Wald) and it is rolling foothills, look and you will find the castle of Greifenstein and the sharply pointed spires of the Klosterneuburg monastery. Just after Klosterneuburg, you have reached the Austrian capital city and city of Waltz, Vienna, a metropolis with a heart full of charm!

      Day 6: Vienna

Some say that one must personally and even intensively experience this great city. A few of the must-sees include the famous Naschmarkt (international food/goods market), the City Opera, Stephan’s Cathedral and of course the gorgeous imperial castle Schönbrunn.
