Lake Constance - Roundtrip 5-6 days

Short tour around the Swabian Sea

Itinerary

Route

Tourprofile / Level 1:

The Lake Constance cycle path runs mainly on cycle paths or on quiet side-streets, which are mostly asphalted. The largest part of the route leads you in close proximity along the lake shore and is signed throughout.

Roundtrip 5 days

Day 1: Constance
Individual arrival to Constance. Use the opportunity to discover the numerous sights worth seeing in the council city. Visit the flower island Mainau, the monastery church Reichenau, the Sea Life Center or the Rosegartenmuseum, where one can relax in the inner courtyard of the cafeteria.

Day 2: Constance – Friedrichshafen/surroundings, approx. 45-60 km
Today’s first highlight is the flower island Mainau – an experience of nature all year long.   Enjoy the beauty and the tranquillity of nature, before your route leads you to Wallhausen. You then travel by ferry (on your own) and cross over the Überlinger Lake to Überlingen. It is recommended to take a side-trip to the monastery church in Birnau and to the pile-dwelling museum in Unteruhldingen.

Day 3: Friedrichshafen – Bregenz/Höchst, approx. 35-45 km
Today you will reach the Lake Constance metropolis Lindau, the border triangle between Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Visit the old city and the lighthouse with the lion pier, the landmark of Lindau. You will then reach the cultural stronghold Bregenz. Stroll through the old city or travel by cable car onto the 1064m high Pfänder and enjoy the unique view of Lake Constance. After travelling through the nature reserve of the Rhine delta, the largest fresh water delta in Europe, you will reach Höchst.

Day 4: Bregenz/Höchst – Constance, approx. 55-65 km
After travelling through the Rhine delta, you cycle into Switzerland. In the Canton Thurgau, the journey leads through various landscapes with the small villages and huge fruit plantations. A dreamlike view of Lake Constance and the impressive alpine foothills accompany you to Constance. The route can be shortened by 21 km with a train ride from Romanshorn to Constance (on your own).

Day 5: Constance
Individual departure or extension of your stay.

Roundtrip 6 days

Individual arrival to the council city Constance with its many sights worth seeing. The middle Ages come alive in the Rosgartenmuseum. One can relax in the cafeteria in the inner courtyard.

Day 2: Constance – Radolfzell/surroundings, approx. 55-70 km
The route leads through picturesque places along the Untersee to the medieval town of Stein am Rhein, over which Hohenklingen Castle towers. Pay another visit to the Lindwurm Museum. Via the Höri peninsula, you reach Radolfzell, which has developed from a modest fishing and wine-growing settlement into a place of pilgrimage and a tourist center on the Untersee.

Day 3: Radolfzell – Friedrichshafen/surroundings, approx. 40-60 km
You pass the nature-protected Mindelsee and reach the former free imperial city of Überlingen via Bodman-Ludwigshafen. In Uhldingen, a visit to the pile dwellings from the Stone and Bronze Ages is recommended. The route continues to the Zeppelin city of Friedrichshafen.
