The Danube cycle path is completely paved from one end to the other, flat and almost always directly along the riverbank.

Day 1: Passau

Individual arrival. Use your remaining time in Passau for a city tour or go for a walk through the picturesque old part of the ‘City of Three Rivers’. Between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. bike hand over – for late arrivals on the next morning.

Day 2: Passau – Eferdinger Valley, approx. 70 km

Along the riverbank of the Danube you will cycle towards the Schlögener loop where the hard granite mountains of the Mühlviertel have created a 180-degree bend on the Danube. Upon arrival you will then take the ferry across the Danube to the southern bank (not included) where you will cycle through the scenic Danube market region of Aschach. Lastly, reaching today’s destination of rest in Brandstatt.

Day 3: Eferdinger Valley – Strudengau, approx. 86 km

Today’s stretch takes you through the state capital of Upper Austria, Linz, complete with its many and varied attractions and later Strudengau. In Grein you can visit an impressive castle and the oldest city theatre in Austria.

Day 4: Strudengau – Krems/surroundings, approx. 90 km

Next, you leave the quaint baroque village of Strudengau and cycle through Nibelungengau to Pöchlarn where you will see the significant monument of Nibelungen and the birthplace of the renowned artist Oskar Kokoschka. After riding past the Benedictine Abbey of Melk, the rolling hills and vineyards of the Wachau take you through the romantic vineyards of Spitz and Weissenkirchen to ancient ruins in the gorgeous village of Dürnstein. In Dürnstein you can visit the jail where King Richard the Lionheart spent time. Moving on to yet another highlight of the day you cycle to the 1000-year-old wine city of Krems where you will enjoy a night of rest.

Day 5: Krems/surroundings - Vienna, approx. 80 km

The last cycling day takes you through the vast and beautiful Tullner fields. As soon as you can see the edge of the Vienna Woods (Wiener Wald) and it is rolling foothills, look and you will find the castle of Greifenstein and the sharply pointed spires of the Klosterneuburg monastery. Just after Klosterneuburg, you have reached the Austrian capital city and city of Waltz, Vienna, a metropolis with a heart full of charm!

Extension at Vienna or train ride back to Passau (Season 1+2) or comfortable by bus (season 3).

    Bicycle breakdowns

    It can happen even with new wheels and by best servicing. With the rental bikes you will receive repair vouchers which you can present in our authorised workshops along the way. Should a repair not be possible, please contact our service number! In a few hotels/guest houses we have some bikes on stock if you need to change them during the trip.


    Private bicycles

    You are welcome to bring your own bicycle. It is adapted especially to your needs. Do not forget to bring a repair kit with all necessary tools such as: keys, reserve tube and lock. Please check your own bicycle for operability upon arrival.

    Valid for danube cycle path: For the return journey to Passau we recommend the reservation of the bus transfer or the train ride - some trains offer bicycle-parking possibilities, however those are limited and a reservation is necessary.

    If a traveller rents a  bike, he is basically liable for damages and theft. When booking our rental bike disclaimer, we assume liability so that in case of loss or damage to the rental bike (when properly used and secured) no financial responsibility must be paid. Excluded from this are only lost keys, batteries and chargers of e-bikes, as well as damage due to intent or gross negligence.

    Train connections with 1-2 changes from Vienna Airport to Passau (travel time: approx. 3-3,5 hours). Our included train ticket from Vienna to Passau can also be used directly from Vienna Airport (surcharge: € 7,-).

    Parking: Unfortunately you can not park your car free of charge in Passau. However there are the following » possibilities parking your car during your holiday - please note parking expenses have to be paid on the spot.

    The bike hand over is located near the Globus Garage.

    Train station: Munich, Salzburg, Linz, Vienna

    Direct train connections from Vienna Central Station. A train ticket from Vienna to Passau is included in the tourprice. It can be used at the beginning or at the end of the tour.

    • Taxi Munich airport – Freising train station (approx. € 25,-), train ride Freising – Passau (Bavarian ticket: 1. person € 25,-. Each further person € 6,- (up to 4 people)
    • Bustransfer: In season 3 (April 25 - September 30), we can organize a bus transfer from your hotel in Vienna back to Passau. Especially when you bring your own bike, this is recommendable (bike transport is included). The pick-up time in Vienna is between 8.30 and 9.30 a.m. The transfer takes approx. 4,5 hours and ends optionally at Globus Garage (Messestraße 6) or at Passau central Station.


    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

    Helmets: are mandatory in Austria for children up to 12 years! Please bring your own fitting helmet.
