Route

Tourprofile / level 1-2

As a whole it is an easy to manage itinerary, riding on secondary streets (approx. 95 paved) with low traffic or paved bike paths. There are light hilly bits with short uphill sections. There is the possibility to shorten some stags by train. (not incl. in the tourprice)

Day 1: Bolzano

Individual arrival. Bolzano is a famous commercial and tourist centre and also a historical and cultural connection between the Italian and the German world.

Day 2: Bolzano – Trento, approx. 65 - 70 km

Today you will ride mostly along the Adige River, through orchards and vineyards passing the villages of Ora, Egna and Salorno. The dam pathways lead then to Trento. Possibility to shorten the stage by taking the train in several train stations along the way. (not incl. in the tourprice)

Day 3: Trento – Desenanzo/Peschiera, approx. 50 km + ferry ride

Always pedaling along the Adige you reach Rovereto and Mori and further to Lake Garda. After a short ascent, a refreshing descent will follow and lead you to Torbole and to Riva del Garda. The ferry cruise takes you to the southern part of the lake.

Day 4: Desenzano/Peschiera del Garda – Verona, approx. 35 - 60 km

Today you head to Verona. With the Adige crossing it, this is one of the most important and beautiful cities in the Veneto region. Worth a visit: the Roman Arena, the Church of San Zeno and Juliet’s House.

Day 5: Verona – Vicenza, approx. 40 - 75 km

At first, the route starts flat and heads through the Monti Berici, a hilly region in the south of Vicenza, with a wonderful view of the city. The old city centre is characterized by the beautiful private palaces and public buildings by Andrea Palladio, the famous 16th century architect is known all over the world. The stage can be shortened in San Bonifacio by train

Day 6: Vicenza – Padova, approx. 50 km

Cycling out of Vicenza, along the cycle path of the river Bacchiglione, you can admire the Palladian masterpiece Villa La Rotonda and the frescoes of Tiepolo at Villa Valmarana (entrance included). Then, past the hamlet of Montegalda, you will head towards the Euganean Hills, where you will have the chance to relax in a 4* spa resort in the largest European thermal district.

Day 7: Padova – Mestre/Venice, approx. 55 km

Along the cycle path of the Battaglia Canal you will pass through Padua, home to one of the oldest Italian (and European) universities and rich in art and history. From here, along the Piovego Canal, you will reach Stra and will follow the Brenta Canal, overlooked by the countryside villas of the ancient Venetian nobility (Villa Pisani, Villa Malcontenta, Villa Widmann) until you reach Mestre, Venice mainland. You can choose to overnight in Venice with a supplement. Please note that in Venice (apart from Piazzale Roma and train station Santa Lucia) it is forbidden to cycle, and also to push your bike by hand.

The tour company provided excellent documentation in English (the best we had in 5 tours). The pre tour briefing was also the best and most comprehensive. All the hotels were excellent as were the breakfasts...A.T. 10/17
