Route

Tour profile / level 1-2

Slightly hilly, not really difficult. The route leads above asphalted side streets, as well as economic way and cycle track sometimes along a Canal.

Day 1: Auxerre

Individual arrival. Auxerre, city of Art and History, has conserved an exceptional architectural heritage over time: the cathedral, a model of gothic style elegance, the St Germain Abbey, a nearly intact monastic complex with the crypts of 9 th Century with one of the oldest mural paintings discovered in France, the clock’s works is set against the tower.

Day 2: Auxerre – Chablis, approx. 37 km

Adjustment of hired bikes. Cistercian Abbey of Pontigny, the largest and one of the most beautiful Cistercian churches remaining in France. Enjoy a tasting of Chablis when you arrive in the very picturesque famous village.

Day 3: Chablis – Noyers/Serein – Nitry, approx. 38 km

Nice day of cycling in the Chablis vineyards, Burgundy’s largest white wine vineyard is your programme today. The itinerary follows the Serein valley through the beautiful villages of the southern Chablis vineyard and the medieval town of Noyers with its naive Art museum. Noyers has preserved fortifications and half-timbered houses.

Day 4: Nitry – Avallon, approx. 52 km

Today you cycle across the superb "terre plaine" plateau and Avallon landscapes. You will pass the medieval hamlet of Montréal before reaching Avallon, a beautiful ancient town.

Day 5: Avallon – Vézelay, approx. 37 km

You cycle through the lovely Avallonnais, past hedgerow landscapes hedgerows and grazing Charolais cattle Charolais cattle to Vézelay. Before that cross the dizzyingly high viaduct with a view of the viaduct at a dizzying height with a view of the bridge of Pierre-Perthuis from the 17th century. magnificent landscape that goes up to the eternal hill of Vézelay.

Day 6: Vézelay – Escolives-Ste-Camille, approx. 48 km

Vézelay has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and its basilica with its Romanesque sculpture decoration is worth a longer stay. About 150 figural capitals are to be seen, they taught on many pilgrims on the way to Compostella and still impress still impress today with their expressiveness. Space and light are here and captivate every visitor. Wonderful descent from Vézelay to Escolives. Escolives. Through deep forest landscapes the Canal de Nivernais by bicycle. Nivernais. And here on the towpath to to Escolive.

Day 7: Escolives-Ste-Camille – Auxerre, approx. 34 km

From Escolives, you will cross the Yonne and the Canal du Nivernais for a detour to the beautiful to the beautiful wine villages of the Côtes d’Auxerre. A tasting of Crémant de Bourgogne is on the agenda before you return to the return to the Canal du Nivernais. back to the Canal du Nivais. Continue along the banks of the Yonne to return to Auxerre back.

Day 8: Auxerre

    Bicycles inclusive panniers

    You can choose between the following bikes with 28" tires in different frame dimensions for ladies and gents.

    • 21-speed bikes

    All bikes are equipped with a rear rack pannier (saddle bag) and a handlebar bag/room.


    E-bikes | Pedelecs

    With an electro bike every bike tour is a breeze! The shiftable, low noise electric drive of our modern E-bike relieves you of some of the work and increases the pedal force up to 3 times ... Acclivity can be handled easily.
    Please note that it won’t be possible to fix the handlebar bags on some of our E-Bikes.


    Bicycle breakdowns

    Breakdowns can happen even with new wheels and by best servicing. Should a repair not be possible, please contact our service number! In a few hotels/guest houses we have some bikes on stock if you need to change them during the trip.


    Private bicycles

    You are welcome to bring your own bicycle. It is adapted especially to your needs. Do not forget to bring a repair kit with all necessary tools such as: keys, spare tube and lock. Please check all functions of your bicycle carefully upon arrival.

    Arrival by plane

    Airport: Dijon (DIJ), Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) / Orly (ORY)
    From Dijon or Paris you can use the regional train to Auxerre. The train ride takes approx. 2 hours and cost approx. € 30,- per person.


    Arrival by car

    Parking: There are public parking lots next to your starting hotel. As well there are some hotel parking spaces in the courtyard of your hotel - free of charge.


    Arrival by train

    Train station: Auxerre - St. Gervais
    The train station is 2 km away from your hotel. Either you walk, take a bus or a taxi for approx. € 10,-.
