Route

Tour profile / level 1:

The path is completely paved from one end to the other, flat, almost always directly along the river bank, very suitable also for beginners and children.

Day 1: Passau

Individual arrival at Passau. Use any extra time for a walk through the picturesque old part of town, or take a boat around this city of 3 rivers (not included). Bike handover until 4 pm (late arrivals will get their bike the next morning)

Day 2: Passau – Linz, approx. 76 km + ship ride + train ride

The Upper Danube Valley with its steep and wooded slopes is almost untouched and idyllic. You catch the ship to Kasten and continue on through the impressive Danube loop, where the river makes an about turn of 180 degrees. You cycle through the Eferdinger basin to Ottensheim. There you catch a train to enter Linz, the Upper Austrian capital. Enjoy the summer evening with a shopping tour in the charming old town.

Day 3: Linz – Strudengau, approx. 60 km

Tip: Make a trip to Enns, the oldest city of Austria. You cycle through the Celt village Mitterkirchen and pass the church in Baumgartenberg. In the afternoon you arrive at “Burg Clam”, one of the best preserved castles in the country. Your destination, Grein, is dominated by the picturesque castle “Greinburg”.

Day 4: Strudengau – Nibelungengau, approx. 46 km

You enjoy the Danube landscape of the Struden- and Nibelungengau, with high rock formations on the left and right side of the Danube. High above the Danube you will find the pilgrimage church of Maria Taferl. Clearly visible from a distance, the Benedictine Monastery Melk welcomes you.

Day 5: Nibelungengau – Krems/surroundings, approx. 49 km

Another highlight of this cycle tour is the beautiful landscape of Wachau. You can find wine terraces, apricot trees, castles and monasteries between them. During your travel to Krems you cycle through the attractive vineyards of Spitz, Weissenkirchen and Dürnstein. Along the way you see cozy Taverns, where you can relax and enjoy the Austrian hospitality.

Day 6: Krems – Vienna, approx. 41 km + train ride

Today you cycle through the unique cultural landscape of this UNESCO world heritage region until Tulln. From there the journey goes on by train and leads you to the Capital of Austria, Vienna.

Day 7: Vienna

Individual departure or extension stay in Vienna. Comfortable is also to return to Passau by train or bus (not included – surcharge).

    Bicycle breakdowns

    It can happen even with new wheels and by best servicing. With the rental bikes you will receive repair vouchers which you can present in our authorised workshops along the way. Should a repair not be possible, please contact our service number! In a few hotels/guest houses we have some bikes on stock if you need to change them during the trip.


    Private bicycles

    You are welcome to bring your own bicycle. It is adapted especially to your needs. Do not forget to bring a repair kit with all necessary tools such as: keys, reserve tube and lock. Please check your own bicycle for operability upon arrival.

    Valid for danube cycle path: For the return journey to Passau we recommend the reservation of the bus transfer or the train ride - some trains offer bicycle-parking possibilities, however those are limited and a reservation is necessary.


    Rental bike disclaimer

    If a traveller rents a  bike, he is basically liable for damages and theft. When booking our rental bike disclaimer, we assume liability so that in case of loss or damage to the rental bike (when properly used and secured) no financial responsibility must be paid. Excluded from this are only lost keys, batteries and chargers of e-bikes, as well as damage due to intent or gross negligence.

    Arrival by car

    Unfortunately you can not park your car free of charge in Passau. However there are varios possibilities for parking your car during your holiday - please note parking expenses have to be paid on the spot.

    Globus Garage Passau
    The bike hand over is located near the Globus Garage. Parking is only possible if you fill in >> this form.

    Important: Car acceptance is only possible in the period from 12pm to 3pm.

    Transfer

    It is possible to add a train or bus ride from Vienna to Passau. The train ride can be used before or after the tour. The bus ride is only bookable for after the tour. Prices and details under "Dates and Prices"

    Taxi Munich airport – Freising train station (approx. € 25,-), train ride Freising – Passau (Bavarian ticket: 1. person € 27,-. Each further person € 9,- up to 5 people)

    Helmets are mandatory in Austria for children up to 12 years! Please bring your own fitting helmet.
