Route

Tour profile/Level 1-2

The route is mainly flat, but in Appenzell it´s a little hilly.The tour runs mainly along its own cycle paths and separate cycle routes.

Day 1: Constance/Kreuzlingen

Individual arrival in Constance/surroundings. The largest town on Lake Constance is still quiet Medieval in character to this day.

Day 2: Constance/Kreuzlngen - Schaffhausen, approx. 50 km

Today is the first official day of cycling, and you will cross over the Swiss border and ride through small romantic villages to Stein am Rhein, one of the most beautiful remaining medieval towns in the German-speaking countries. Riding into Schauffhausen you’ll see the Munot Fortress towering over the town. There are over 170 oriels in the town which testify to the former wealth of its citizens. The day will end in Schaffhausen.

Day 3: Schaffhausen - Zurich, approx. 55-70 km

The first highlight of today’s route is the world famous Rheinfall waterfall, which you will approach by boat.The Glatt River valley will lead you on to Zurich, a fascinating and bustling Swiss city. 

Day 4: Zurich - Lachen, approx. 45 km

Today you can bike Zurich or you have sufficient time for a leisurely stroll through this great metropolitan city. Walk along the promenade, visit the beautiful old part of town and also one of its many museums or art galleries. Subsequently, you will bike following the banks of Lake Zurich which is locally known as the Gold Coast. You come to Rapperswil with its old castle and cross over the lake over the dam to the small town of Lachen, located on the opposite shore of Rapperswil. Here you will spend the night.

Day 5: Lachen - Vaduz, approx. 60 km + boat ride

Cycling out of Lachen you will pedal along the man-made Linth Canal located between Lake Zurich and Lake Walenn, finally reaching Weesen.  Here you will board a ferry which will take you to the other end of the Lake Walen to Walenstadt. The lake is 150 m deep and is towered by the Churfirsten Mountains, the highest peak being 1800 m high. Back on the bike you will cycle further to Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein where you will stay overnight.

Day 6: Vaduz - St. Gallen, approx. 55 km + train ride

Cycle a short distance along the Rhine, then take the rack railroad up to Appenzell, to Gais. Alpine pastures and cows accompany you on the way to St.Gallen. The library of the collegiate church belongs to the most important historical libraries in the world. Among the approximately 160,000 books owned by the library, they are in possesion of the oldest German book.

Day 7: St. Gallen - Konstanz, approx. 45 km

You cycle pleasantly downhill to Lake Constance. Most of the time you cycle directly along the lake through the small towns of Arbon and Romanshorn back to Constance. This route is flat and except in strong westerly winds can be mastered effortlessly. Again and again you will pass bathing places, where you can refresh yourself in the lake.

    We rent comfortable unisex bikes in a variety of frame sizes to our guests, also men’s bikes from a body height of 1,75 m. Both models are available with a 8-speed hub gear and back-pedal brakes or 27-derailleur gears and free-wheel. All bikes are fitted with panniers, handlebar bag incl. map compartment, cyclometer, bike lock and repair kit.
