Rhine Cycle Path | Winery tour

Rhine & Wine Roundtrip

Itinerary

Route

Tour profile/ Level 2:

On this altogether hilly tour you cycle on the one hand on the Rhine cycle path and the Nahe cycle path, otherwise often in the middle of the vineyards partly on separate cycle paths, partly also on the typical small asphalt roads and farm roads, which are only for the vehicles of the winegrowers (and cyclists). In the vineyards are two short bumpy sliding distances as well as individual non-asphalted passages.

Day 1: Rüdesheim

Individual arrival. Arrive early, because Rüdesheim has much to offer. Take a varied ride on the chairlift to Niederwalddenkmal with stunning views of the vineyards of the Rheingau, stroll through the famous Drosselgasse and visit the wine shop "RheinWeinWelt" which is unique in Germany. Here you can taste the wines of more than 70 winegrowers in a historic building in a listed building. So you are perfectly tuned to your bike and wine journey.

Day 2: Rüdesheim – near Bad Kreuznach, approx. 51 km

After a short ferry ride across the Rhine, you reach Bingen. Cycle along the Nahe cycle path to Bad Kreuznach, where Europe’s largest open-air inhalatorium with graduation towers and healing springs invites you to marvel. The route continues through the romantic Nahe valley, past spectacular rock formations and the impressive steep face of Rotenfels. In Schloßböckelheim you have the opportunity to visit a winegrower.

Day 3: Bad Kreuznach – Flonheim, approx. 47-55 km

Today you cycle through the Alsenztal valley and follow a beautiful cycle path, albeit with a few climbs, into the Appelbachtal valley. This takes you into the wine-growing region of Rheinhessen, where vast vineyards attract your attention. Look forward to Neu-Bamberg with its medieval atmosphere and typical wine villages such as Wöllstein and Flonheim. Here you can stay overnight directly with the winegrower and enjoy a wine tasting in the evening.

Day 4: Flonheim – Nierstein, approx. 47 km

In the morning, you cycle into the vineyards and enjoy the breathtaking views before taking a break in the old town centre of Alzey. Along the way, you will pass the wine villages of Gau-Odernheim, Hillesheim and Wintersheim. Via the Rheinterrassen cycle path, you reach Oppenheim with the German Wine Museum. Your destination is Nierstein, the largest wine-growing community on the Rhine, where a wine tasting awaits you in the evening.

Day 5: Nierstein – Eltville, approx. 42 km

Wine on the left, the Rhine on the right: in the morning, you cycle the first flat kilometres to the old town of Mainz. Admire the Romanesque cathedral, the electoral palace and the Gutenberg Museum - highlights of this lively city, which is known as the wine capital with many wine bars and wine shops. After a break, continue along the Rhine Cycle Route into the Rheingau. Winding paths through the vineyards lead you to the wine, sparkling wine and rose town of Eltville. Enjoy the Rhine riverside promenade, the rose garden and the Electoral Castle before a wine tasting awaits you at the hotel in the evening.

Day 6: Eltville – Rüdesheim, approx. 28-40 km

Today you cycle through the vineyards of the Rheingau and discover highlights such as Kiedrich with its historic St Valentinus Church and the oldest playable organ in Germany. Visit Eberbach Abbey with its abbey museum, the Riesling vineyard Schloss Vollrads and Schloss Johannisberg. From Rüdesheim, we recommend a 12-kilometre round trip through the vineyards to Assmannshausen and back along the Rhine.

Day 7: Roundtrip Upper Middle Rhine Valley, approx. 32 km + boat ride

Enjoy a romantic Rhine boat trip from Rüdesheim to the Loreley and admire the UNESCO World Heritage Site from the sun deck. From St. Goar, you cycle leisurely along the Rhine Cycle Path back to Rüdesheim, past vineyards and picturesque villages. Along the way, Oberwesel with its town wall and Bacharach with its half-timbered houses are well worth a visit.

Day 8: Rüdesheim

Individual departure or extension.

    Our 7- or 27-speed-bikes

The robust modern aluminium frame with moulded lower tube guarantees quiet running even in case of high "payload". Same applies to the steel forks. All frames are coated with a long-living and non-polluting powder lacquer showing the typical Velociped green. There are, of course, different types of frame available depending on the size of ladies and gentlemen, as the bike must fit the "rider".

And: all ladies’ bikes have a low opening that makes mounting and dismounting much easier.

All 7-speed tourers have wide and comfortable gel saddles with a cushioning that offers maximum comfort even in an upright position. The seat post has a quick release skewers in order to adjust the saddle size without tools.

    E-Bikes | Pedelecs

We use high-quality, sturdy and technically mature FLYER e-bikes produced by the Swiss manufacturers Biketec. The drive of e-bikes can be switched on and off, respectively at the touch of a button – at any time. Thus, you can make use of the motor for ascents or headwind only, or as permanent support enabling you to cover even larger and harder day trips without physical exertion. You’ll always reach your destination rested and relaxed. The Shimano 8-speed hub is equally graded, and the grip shifter ensures easy and smooth handling, also under load. You can therefore always select the optimal speed while at the same time using a smooth motor support.

Power is supplied to the motor by a 36 volt/12 ampere battery according to latest lithium-ion-polymer technology standards. The battery provides support for driving distances of up to approx. 100 km per charge. Recharging takes about 5 hours for completely discharged batteries. It is not necessary to wait until the battery is discharged, recharging is possible at any time.

Attention: Please reserve E-bikes early as they are always depending on availability.

    Equipment

Our bikes are equipped with a map holder at the handlebar, a waterproof pannier on the side of the bicylcle rack and a repair kit with a backup inner tube and an emergency kit.

    Bringing own bikes

Sure you are invited to bring you own bike which is already fitted best for your needs. Do not forget to bring a repair kit with all necessary tools such as: keys, reserve tube and lock. Please check your own bicycle for operability upon arrival. Please note that we are not liable in case of damage, lost and theft. In case it breaks down, we will of course see to help you.
