Route

Tour profile / Level 2

You mostly cycle on back roads. A few times there is a gravel road and there are a few bike paths on Kos. The streets are only busier around the capitals Kos and Rhodes. Flat or slightly hilly stretches alternate with a few short climbs.

Day 1: Rhodes Island Kalavarda

Individual arrival in Rhodes. Transfer to the starting hotel in Kalavarda included.

Day 2: Rhodes Island / Round trip to Kámiros and Kritinía Castle, approx. 37 km

A drive along the beautiful coast to the fishing port of Kámiros Skála. The excavations of the ancient city of Kamiros and the ruined castle of Kritinia can both be reached after a short but steep slope. Overnight in Kalavarda, dinner included in the hotel.

Day 3: Rhodes Island / Kalavárda – Rhodes Town, approx. 42 km

You cycle to the butterfly valley Petaloudes (butterfly season from late June to mid-September). The villages of Maritsa and Pastida are located on beautiful forest paths. The bike path takes you through the "back door" into the city of Rhodes. Here are the remains of an old temple and stadium. Overnight in Rhodes town.

Day 4: Kos Island / cycling to Mastichari, approx. 28 km

You take the ferry to Kos (not included). On Kos you can visit the interesting capital on a walk. Then you cycle to Mastichari. The flat route partly runs along the coast. Flamingos can often be seen in a salt pan. You spend the night in Mastichari, the smallest and most intimate seaside resort in Kos.

Day 5: Kos Island / Round trip to Plaka, approx. 29-61 km

The route goes through the heart of the island with a visit to Andimáchia (ancient mill, traditional house) and the Pláka forest, where wild peacocks roam. You can extend the route with the great fortress of Andimáchia, a visit to Lacháda Beach or a loop through Kéfalos. Overnight in Mastichari.

Day 6: Kos Island / Rest day, bike tour or excursion to Kalymnos or Nisyros

The golden sandy beaches of Mastichari make a rest day very attractive. The bike tour (33 km) has two slightly longer slopes. You cycle via Andimáchia to Kardámena on the south coast. Then a nice road follows over a kind of mountain pass to Pylí, one of the oldest villages on Kos.

On Kalymnos you can take a 25 km bike ride to Vathy, a green oasis in a barren landscape on a fjord-like bay. The ferry to Kalymnos departs from Mastichari. The ferry to Nisyros leaves from Kardamena, 13 km from Mastichari. Nisyros is very picturesque, an active volcanic island. You can bring your bike, but cycling on Nisyros is tiring. You can also book an organized day trip in Mastichari that includes ferries and buses. Overnight in Mastichari.

Day 7: Kalymnos + Leros Island / Ferry to Kalymnos, ferry to Leros

Today you will first travel to Kalymnos by ferry (not incl.). You can take a look around Pothia or go to a terrace (see also day 6). Then take the catamaran to Leros (not incl.). Overnight in Lakki.

Day 8: Leros Island / Bike tour Agios Isidoros on Leros, approx. 37 km

After visiting the small crab church of Xirokambos you cycle to the castle of Leros with a wide view over the island. You will visit the bays of Agia Marina and Alona as well as the little church of Agios Isidoros. It is located on a rocky island that can be reached via a dam. Overnight in Lakki.

Day 9: Leros Island / Bike tour Blefouti, approx. 25 km

Another bike ride over the quiet and quite green Leros, now to the secluded beach of Blefoutis. Overnight in Lakki.

Day 10: Rhodes Island / Ferry to Rhodes

Your ferry usually leaves for Rhodes in the afternoon (not incl.). On the way, Kalymnos and Kos are visited again, probably also Symi. Overnight in Rhodes town.

Day 11: Rhodes Island / City tour of Rhodes town or excursion to Symi

The impressive city of Rhodes from the crusader era has been beautifully restored. A city walk takes you past all the highlights (Knight’s Palace and Knight’s Street, city gates, squares, churches, mosques, synagogues), but also through back alleys in quiet places. You have a whole day here, but you can also use the time for a trip to picturesque Sými. On this island you will visit both the Panormítis Monastery in the south and the photogenic main town in the north. Sports enthusiasts take their bikes with them to cycle from south to north (the trip to Symi depends on the available ferries). Overnight in Rhodes town. Dinner included (in a tavern in the old town).

Day 12: Rhodes Island / Rhodes town

Individual departure or extension. Transfer to the airport included.
