Pearls of Southern Dalmatia DELUXE by Bike + Boat

from/to Trogir

Map South Dalmatia DELUXE

Route

Tour profile: Level 2-3

The cycling stages require a good basic condition, which should be acquired as a regular cyclist. The cycling stages of 30 - 60 km in length lead through hilly and mountainous terrain and are cycled without time constraints. Steeper or longer climbs can also be mastered. The tours go up to an altitude between 200 and 700 meters. The roads are mainly asphalted and not very busy outside the vacation periods. In principle, on our e-bike & ship tours there is also the possibility to participate with a gravel bike or road bike. However, the guided group pace is oriented towards the e-bike riders. Those who ride a gravel bike on an e-bike tour should not be surprised about the fast basic pace.

Day 1: Trogir (Embarkation) – Vis Island

Arrival is either by car to Trogir or by plane to Split Airport, which is around 6 km from the Trogir embarkation harbour. After checking in between 2 p.m. and 2.30 p.m., your journey begins at around 3 p.m., the first longer crossing, which takes you from Trogir to the island of Vis.

Day 2: Island of Vis, approx. 32 km

Vis is the Croatian island furthest away from the mainland. It was already known as a Greek colony called Issa more than 2,300 years ago. Due to its strategically favourable location, Vis was a restricted military area and inaccessible to foreign tourists until 1995. Today you have the opportunity to explore this charming island from the saddle of your bike. After the cycle tour, your boat will take you to the island of Korčula.

Day 3: Island of Korcula, approx. 60 km

Today you will explore the island of Korčula by bike and enjoy your lunch break in one of the local restaurants. The tranquillity and seclusion of lush gardens with large cypress trees characterise the image of perhaps the most beautiful Dalmatian island. Your cycle tour takes you through the village of Blato, which was built on seven hills like Rome, over the pass road to the beautiful bay of Pupnat and finally to Korčula town, whose beautiful old town with its herringbone-like alleyways invites you to wander around.

Day 4: Island of Hvar, approx. 20 km

Early in the morning, the ship sails to the island of Hvar while you enjoy your breakfast. Before arriving in the island’s capital, you will have time for a swim from the boat and a relaxed lunch at anchor. On land, you will have time to enjoy the atmosphere of Hvar’s magnificent Renaissance square and marvel at the view of the Spanish fortress high above the town. Today’s cycle tour takes you from the town of Hvar to the most beautiful viewpoints on the island and past fragrant wild lavender fields to the town of Stari Grad. Stari Grad is the second largest settlement on the island of Hvar and is known for its protective harbour and beautiful stone facades.

Day 5: Brač Island, approx. 30 km

You will cross over to the island of Brač, famous for its brilliant white limestone, which was used, among others, for the White House in Washington and the Reichstag in Berlin. Today’s tour starts from the harbour town of Milna. The first climb offers breathtaking views over the neighboring islands before you cycle over the island ridge and then enjoy the descent to the port town of Postira. From here you will return to the ship in Pučišća.

Day 6: Split (approx. 17 km) or rafting on the Cetina

During breakfast you will take a boat to Split. Today you have a choice between a bike tour or a rafting experience on the Cetina River. If you choose the rafting tour, a transfer bus will pick you up from the ship. The rafting tour (not included in the tour price) is a special nature experience and takes place with trained guidance. After this adventure, the transfer will take you back to the ship.

In the meantime, cyclists will take a short but panoramic tour to the green heart of Split - Mount Marjan. Afterwards, there will be enough time for extensive refreshment on the beach. In the afternoon, a guided tour of Split, whose old town is a World Heritage Site, awaits you.

Day 7: Island of Šolta, approx. 20 km

After the short crossing to Rogač on the island of Šolta, you will set off for your last bike ride. Walled fields, numerous olive groves, carob and fig trees line the road. The spicy smell of lavender and rosemary accompanies you as you ride across this quiet island. In Rogač we load the bikes and enjoy the last crossing back to Trogir, where there is still enough time to visit the old town, which is a World Heritage Site. Traditionally, the last evening before disembarkation is celebrated as a cheerful get-together of guests and crew/tour guides.

Day 8: Trogir

After breakfast disembarkation until 9 am and individual trip home or extended stay in Croatia.

    Arrival - Parking - Departure

    Arrival by plane

Airport: Split (SPU), Zadar (ZAD), Dubrovnik (DBV)

For all tours starting in Trogir the closest airport is Split (SPU) that is situated at a distance of only 6 km/4 mi. from the town. The harbor can easily be reached by taxi (approx. € 20,- per way).

    Arrival by car

Parking: parking near the ship landing station, payable locally (reservation necessary)

    Arrival by train

    Train station: Rijeka
If you have a lot of time and do not want to fly, there is also the possibility to travel by train to Rijeka and then by ferry to Split. However, from Munich you will need at least 24 hours to get to Trogir.

Rijeka train station is very close to the ferry port. There are porters in the train station who will transport your bags to the ferry with handcarts for about € 3,- per piece of luggage. There is also a cab stand in front of the station. From the ferry port in Split, take a bus or cab to Trogir (about 20 km or 30 min).

You can start the return journey by ferry and train only on Sunday (for overnight stay from Saturday to Sunday there are always rooms in Trogir at this time of the year), because the ferry leaves for Rijeka only on Sunday evening.

    Arrival by bus

During the touristic season there are constant buses to over 50 spots in Croatia, within also to Rijeka. Please find the timetable at www.touring.de.
