      The Danube Cycle Path Deluxe offers the possibility to not only enjoy the beauty of the Danube while cycling during the days but also to relax and enjoy in the best hotels along the way in the evenings. Enjoy the wonderful river between Passau and Vienna in a completely different way.

      You will visit cultural sites such as Austria’s biggest Benedictine Abbey "Stift Melk" and the famous ruin in Dürnstein, where the English king Richard Lion Heart was imprisoned. Vienna will impress you immediately with its grandness! This capital city whose glorious history and old roots as a monarchy reveal themselves around every corner is filled with treasures. You will stay in the top hotels in each overnight stop along the way, primarily luxury 4- and 5- star hotels in town centers. Each hotel has its own history and will take you into the wonderful world of Austrians gracious culture and tradition.

      Tour profile / level 1

      The cycling path is completely paved from one end to the other, flat, almost always directly along the riverbank and is also very suitable for beginners and children.

      Day 1: Passau

      Individual arrival. Use the remaining time for a city tour: go for a walk through the picturesque old part of town. Until 4 pm bike hand over – for late arrivals on the next morning.

      Day 2: Passau – Schlögen, approx. 45 km

      The Upper Danube Valley with its steep and wooded slopes is almost untouched and idyllic. You continue on through the impressive Danube loop, where the river makes a turn of about 180 degrees. Do not miss the trappist monastery of Engelszell which is well known for it’s homemade liquers.

      Day 3: Schlögen – Linz, approx. 55 km

      After a totally relaxing night you cycle on to the picturesque town of Aschach and continue along the bike path until the Upper Austrian Capital Linz, where you spend the night. Enjoy Linz with it’s lovely old city center and high-contrast culture.

      Day 4: Linz – Grein/Bad Kreuzen, approx. 55 km

      After having a strengthening breakfast, you continue through the soft Danube meadows of “Machland” until you reach Grein/Bad Kreuzen. In Enns you may visit the main square with it’s 60 m high tower built in the 16th century! Here you will also find the Lauriacum Municipal Museum with its archaeological collection.

      Day 5: Grein/Bad Kreuzen – Melk, approx. 53 km

      Starting the day by biking through the “Strudengau” region until you reach Melk. You will already catch a glimpse of the imposing monastery of Melk from afar.

      Day 6: Melk – Dürnstein, approx. 35 km

      Today’s tour will enchant you. You cycle through the UNESCO World Heritage region Wachau which is the heart of Austrian viniculture. Enjoy the breathtaking beauty of this region to the full until you reach the historical town of Dürnstein.

      Day 7: Dürnstein – Tulln, approx. 49 km

      Leaving the vineyards behind you, you cycle through the expanse of the “Tullnerfeld” at a leisurely pace. You arrive at the roman town Tulln in the afternoon. Enjoy this neat and nice small city while you go for a vespertine walk.

      Day 8: Tulln – Vienna, approx. 35 km

      Out of Tulln you come closer to Vienna. As soon as you can see the edge of the Vienna Woods (Wiener Wald) and it’s rolling foothills, look and you will find the castle of Greifenstein and the sharply pointed spires of the Klosterneuburg monastery. Just after Klosterneuburg, you have reached the Austrian capital  and city of Waltz, Vienna, a metropolis with a heart full of charm!

      Day 9: Vienna

      Before leaving Vienna, make sure to visit the famous Naschmarkt (international
      foods/goods) and stop by the well-known leisure park “Prater”. Extension at Vienna or train ride back to Passau (Season 1+2) or comfortable by bus (season 3).

      Airports: Munich (MUC), Salzburg (SZG), Linz (LNZ), Vienna (VIE)
      Train connections with 1-2 changes from Vienna Airport to Passau (travel time: approx. 3 hours). Our included 1st class ticket from Vienna to Passau can be used before or after the tour.

      Arrival by train

      Train stations: Munich, Salzburg, Linz, Vienna
      A 1st class train ticket from Vienna to Passau is included in the tourprice. It can be used at the beginning or at the end of the tour.

      The actual timeable and prices you will find via Deutsche Bahn or ÖBB.

      Arrival by car

      Unfortunately you can not park your car free of charge in Passau. However there are varios possibilities for parking your car during your holiday - please note parking expenses have to be paid on the spot.

      Globus Garage Passau
      It is possible to park your car in the Globus Parking Garage which is located next to our bike handover. Please reserve your spot through our booking form (details, booking form and prices for 2024 will follow soon)

      Some of our start hotels also offer a hotel garage. This information you will find on your final travel documents.

        Bicycle breakdowns

        It can happen even with new wheels and by best servicing. With the rental bikes you will receive repair vouchers which you can present in our authorised workshops along the way. Should a repair not be possible, please contact our service number! In a few hotels/guest houses we have some bikes on stock if you need to change them during the trip.

        Private bicycles

        You are welcome to bring your own bicycle. It is adapted especially to your needs. Do not forget to bring a repair kit with all necessary tools such as: keys, reserve tube and lock. Please check your own bicycle for operability upon arrival.

        For the return journey to Passau we recommend the reservation of the bus transfer or the train ride - some trains offer bicycle-parking possibilities, however those are limited and a reservation is necessary.

        Rental bike disclaimer

        If a traveller rents a  bike, he is basically liable for damages and theft. When booking our rental bike disclaimer, we assume liability so that in case of loss or damage to the rental bike (when properly used and secured) no financial responsibility must be paid. Excluded from this are only lost keys, batteries and chargers of e-bikes, as well as damage due to intent or gross negligence.
